We can also make eyelet setting dies for virtually any machine that accepts slip in type dies. Also, we can make custom dies to fit specific applications where a standard die would not fit into the application.

Eyelet setting dies can be made to roll set the eyelet on the backside like a donut or score set that will split the eyelet barrel into 8 equal segments which will then curl over and dig into the material. Roll sets are used in material that is rigid to semi rigid or in pliable material in conjunction with a washer. A score set is used mostly for cloth like material. Examples of the two types of setting and die types are illustrated below.

EYELET SETTING DIES

There are four styles of dies that are most commonly used in setting eyelets.

Locating Point Dies

These dies are used for material that already has a hole in it, like a laminated pin wheel, a calendar, a gun holster, a knife sheath, a PC board, prepunched metal etc.. The bottom male die has a bullet nose locating point which makes it easy for the operator to place the item or items to be eyeleted on the bottom die. If a washer is being used, there will be a washer seat that is cut into the bottom die to center the washer.  The top die has a concave cut that matches the flange of the eyelet to insure a mar free finish. The dies are constructed from the finest tool steel and hardened and annealed to provide long life and hundreds of thousands of excellent settings.

Cut/Set Dies

These dies are used in a double action machine or a manual machine. On the first stroke of the machine, the dies cut a clean hole, the chip that is cut goes into the top die and out the relief hole of the top die. On the second stroke of the machine,  the eyelet is set.  These dies are used for banner material, canvas, light plastics and leather.  The bottom die has a flat male post and when it comes in contact with the top die acts like a scissor to cut a clean hole in your material. If you are using a washer there will be a washer seat that is cut into the bottom die to center the washer.  The top die has a concave cut that matches the flange of the eyelet to insure a mar free finish. The dies are constructed from the finest tool steel and hardened and annealed to provide long life and hundreds of thousands of excellent settings.  When cut/set dies become dull, they can be sent back to us to be re-cut and sharpened bringing them back to new condition for substantial savings over a new die.

Bodkin Point Dies

These dies have a 3 sides sharp point on the bottom die. The material is pulled over the bottom die which makes a small hole in the material.  The eyelet is then set.  These dies are used for stretchy material where a small hole is needed to add holding strength to the setting like bathing suit material or tightly woven fabrics. This type of die will usually have a washer seat that is cut into the bottom die to center the washer.  Material that is stretchy usually requires an accompanying washer to give the eyelet the proper holding strength. The top die has a concave cut that matches the flange of the eyelet to insure a mar free finish. The dies are constructed from the finest tool steel and hardened and annealed to provide long life and hundreds of thousands of excellent settings. When the 3 sided point becomes dull with use, the dies can be sent back to us for cleaning and sharpening for a minimal cost.

Pierce Point Dies

These dies have a tapered point on the bottom die. The material is pulled over the bottom die which separates the fibers making the smallest possible hole in the material.  The eyelet is then set.  These dies are used for loosely woven material, like sweater material, where a small hole is needed to add holding strength to the setting. This type of die will usually have a washer seat that is cut into the bottom die to center the washer or a scored setting.  Material that is loosely woven usually requires an accompanying washer to give the eyelet the proper holding strength. The top die has a concave cut that matches the flange of the eyelet to insure a mar free finish. The dies are constructed from the finest tool steel and hardened and annealed to provide long life and hundreds of thousands of excellent settings.
